Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
Product Features
● Soft polyvinyl chloride generally contains 30-50% plasticizer. Due to its soft texture, it has high strength; it has good air tightness and waterproofness.
● Hard polyvinyl chloride is made with only a small amount of plasticizer. Its characteristics include a hard texture, high mechanical strength, and good resistance to chemical corrosion.
● Polyvinyl chloride plastic has poor heat resistance, and its strength is greatly affected by temperature, decreasing by 80% at -20°C compared to 20°C. Therefore, film products are not easy to store and use at low temperatures; soft products should not be used above 45°C, and hard products should not exceed 60°C. Prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause aging and brittleness.
● During the processing of polyvinyl chloride film, heat stabilizers must be added to prevent thermal decomposition. Since heat stabilizers contain lead salts and other substances, polyvinyl chloride plastic is toxic and cannot be used for food packaging.
● Polyvinyl chloride plastic in contact with organic solvents and insecticides such as naphthalene will become sticky and dissolve, and it is also prone to absorb odors; due to the high volatility of plasticizers, it should not be stored for too long.
Product Applications
◆ Soft polyvinyl chloride can be made into good agricultural films, commonly used to make raincoats, tablecloths, curtains, ticket holders, tote bags, etc. It is also widely used in the manufacture of plastic shoes and artificial leather. The outer skin of electrical cables is often made of PVC.
◆ Hard polyvinyl chloride can be made into transparent, translucent, and various colored pearlescent products. It is commonly used to make soap boxes, combs, washboards, pencil cases, and various pipes.
